Helping Companies Create Inspiring Workspaces

Founded in 1962 and partially taken over by Lohbeck’s family in 1974 and completely in the early 80s, Bureau Moderne has long been more than just a furniture store. Its experienced team has helped business owners create environments where employees feel comfortable, motivated, and inspired. Three years ago, this expertise was distilled into the New Work Academy, a structured service offering awareness-raising sessions and intensive half-day workshops designed to help companies shape workplaces that meet the evolving needs of their employees.
A Tailored Approach to Modern Workspaces
The interactive workshops begin with a warm welcome, followed by an introduction to the principles of modern work environments. Participants then engage in in-depth discussions tailored to their company’s specific needs, ensuring that the final workspace design reflects the diverse requirements of different departments.
“The needs of our clients have changed because people have changed,” explains Camille. “Since the COVID-19 pandemic, employees expect their employers to listen. We’ve transitioned from an employer-driven market to an employee-driven one. Today, people want to work in an environment that is both functional and enjoyable.”
Transforming Workspaces, One Business at a Time
The New Work Academy has already guided numerous companies across various industries, including insurance firm Foyer, wine and spirits experts Caves Wengler and Banque de Luxembourg, in reimagining their workspaces. Solutions range from homely decor to breakout areas and thoughtfully designed flexible workspaces.
“We helped design a coffee corner for an electrical firm with 300 employees, and it was a game-changer,” says Camille. “It brought people together in a whole new way.” New work is not a fancy trend for big companies. Every workspace should be a pleasant one.
Bureau Moderne: Practicing What It Preaches
Bureau Moderne doesn’t just advocate for well-designed workplaces—it embodies them. At its showroom in Hamm, visitors can immerse themselves in an inspiring, multisensory experience. Thoughtfully lit and decorated spaces invite exploration, fabrics can be touched and felt and acoustic design elements create an atmosphere of calm. Even the restrooms feature the soothing sounds of birdsong, reinforcing the idea that workspaces should enhance well-being.
AI can enhance efficiency, but it can’t replicate the social interactions that make a workplace enjoyable
Shaping the Future of Work
Committed to driving the conversation on workplace innovation, Bureau Moderne recently hosted an innovation and networking event featuring Raphael Gielgen, Head of Research and Trend Scouting at Swiss furniture company Vitra. A forward-thinking expert, Gielgen emphasised the importance of human connection in office design and explored the role of generative AI in future workspaces. He predicted that by 2030, 50% of office tasks will be automated. While Bureau Moderne is already investigating ways AI can streamline repetitive tasks, Camille is adamant that technology can never replace the human touch.
“AI can enhance efficiency, but it can’t replicate the social interactions that make a workplace enjoyable,” he says.
