In this 6,500-square-foot Hyderabad home, a light oak playroom emerges as a charming highlight
Excluding the bedrooms, the apartment is an open spread of separate functional elements thoughtfully arranged together. There is an imperceptible flow of movement as well as energy, from the living area to the kitchen and through, all the way to the dining area. Curated enclaves within this large space hosting a variety of daily household performances, from a lively interaction in the living room with a sofa—a reupholstered and extended version of a piece from the clients’ previous home—to the bar area designed with a similar design ideology and the large kitchen and dining area “with a prominent island—a must-have for the couple, who love to entertain and spend time with their twin daughters.”
A space full of surprises, the apartment comes with a wing dedicated to the clients’ children – twin daughters. A rather contrasting character to the rest of the space, the children’s wing exudes a comforting and playful energy. A stark alternative to the American walnut wood casing the house, the children’s wing is decorated in light oak wood and soft blush accents. “The client was clear that she didn’t want overly feminine décor while designing for her young twin daughters,” adds the designer. It’s a space that reflects an eternal modernity in lieu of a static design focusing on children. A series of arches and sinuous forms follow function, “making the space adaptable as the children grow.”
The standout feature of this wing is its playroom—a space featuring a ball pit, reading nooks carefully camouflaged between concealed wall storage, a mock play kitchen, and custom made cots that can be converted into standard beds. Cane finishes, globe pendant lights, a bubble swing chair and mini furniture sums up the subtle vibrancy of this space.
“It stands as an ode to the modern family home, where thoughtful design and attention to detail result in a space that is not only beautiful but also deeply personal,” quotes the designer. This Hyderabad home embodies a cultural charm with embedded minimalism defining the clients’ original design brief.
